The White House: A Pop-Up of Our Nation's Home In this spectacular pop up guide to the White House by bestselling paper engineer Robert Sabuda, readers can take a tour behind the scenes of the office of the executive branch and the residence of the president and his family Travel through time as you open each spread and discover the North Face of the White House, the East Room, the Lincoln Bedroom, the Rose Garden, the Oval Office, and the South Lawn of the White House The text includes the poem Inauguration Day by Richard Watson Gilder, adapted by Robert SabudaEvery American president since John Adams has lived in the White House More thanmillion people visit the White House every year According to First Lady Michelle Obama, It s the People s House It s a place that is steeped in history, but it s also a place where everyone should feel welcome The White House A Pop Up of Our Nation s Home is perfect for Presidents Day and the upcoming election Oh, I thought this would be so much better Robert Sabuda s work is usually a draw for me and that is why I purchased this book While the pop up s are okay, I just feel short changed I thought this book would be a tour through the most important rooms of the White House with some historical information relating to each room This it is not The text is not interesting enough for children, but too simple for adults and collectors This should have and could have been much better. Robert Sabuda macht sehr sch ne Pop ups und auch in The White House sind die Pop Ups wieder WUNDERBAR Es gibt mehr von New York und andere , jeder B ch ist spezial und man kann das nicht einmal aber viele mahlen schauen und geniessen von KUNST, POP UPS sind wirklich KUNST ART Sabuda books are a BIG deal in our family We nearly have them all We had pre ordered this one months ago When it arrived today, we were stunned This is a Sabuda book First of all, only 6 pop up pages What ones that are there a very minimalistic While most Sabuda books stand 4 inches tall on table, this one is maybe 2 inches While the pop ups are nice, they are not nearly as elaborate as some of his previous work For example, few pop up side notes With the wealth of options with something like the White House, it is shocking that he chose to do a minimalistic work on this historic site Page 1 Construction with side pop up Page 2 The East Room Page 3 The Lincoln Study with side pop up of Lincoln bed Page 4 The Rose Garden Page 5 Oval Office interesting oval effect Page 6 South Lawn View While it is a disappointment, I do realize I only spent 20 for the book from , and for that, it is worth it But, don t be expecting as much as you normally get with a Subuda book. I am a Pop Up Book Collector and I have almost all of Robert Sabuda s books he s the one who got me started on my collection I pre ordered this as soon as I got notice of its publication What a disappointment This had none of his usual creativity or panache It was skimpy in terms of the number of pages and the side pop ups which are always so informative and entertaining were lackluster and could have simply been omitted I think that if and when he comes out with a new book I will go to a store and look at it before I buy. This is a beautifully constructed book, not really meant for young children, but in my view, a collector s item Each page gives a little history along with a relevant poem It s plain in the sense of no eye popping colors neutral and white, with paler greens and pinks, etc but it is quite detailed in its paper engineering There are a total of six, pop ups that spread across both pages 1 the White House under construction, with moving mechanisms when the page is opened, 2 the East Room with a beautiful pop up chandelier, 3 the Lincoln Study, with a flap that opens into the Lincoln Bedroom, 4 the Rose Garden, 5 the Oval Office, and 6 the exterior of the modern White House I have other Robert Sabuda books, and this is one of my favorites. Usually very impressed with Sabuda s pop ups, but this one was not as awesome as most of his works Was disappointed when the pages did not have the same wow factor I have seen is precious works. I think it s great A bit different style from other books, but definitely has some solid, unique mechanisms Some of the elaborate books require significant manipulation to open or close each page Those are really amazing too, but this one is solid and reliable I feel less worried about damaging pages with this one Glad I ignored the haters and added this to my pop up book collection I love sabuda books but this one does not live up to his usual standards Where is the wow factor as in beauty and the beast, megabeasts, etc etc Very disappointing. Great packaging and great condition on the book Great historical blurbs and delightful pop ups
