Free kindle The Tell-Tale Heart (English Edition)Author Edgar Allan Poe –

Edgar Allan Poe is still one of my all time favourite authors and I am a massive fan, and I know that I am not the only one Here we are presented with one of his short stories, which he was to call dark romances, but which we usually call gothic, and this is great to read whilst sitting down with a cuppa.First published in 1843 and narrated by an unknown person, thus we read of murder, and what happens next We never know what relationship the narrator has with the old man in bed who they kill is, or really indeed why they commit murder, or even the sex of the narrator which adds to the creepiness of this tale Insisting to us the narrator informs us that they are not mad, but is this so Are they really hypersensitive as they claim, or well on the route to total insanity With what could have been a perfect crime, so we see how the narrator is caught, and it is this that really brings to life the whole of this short tale, and perhaps a guilty conscience is too much for the person to live with Intriguing and still influencing writers and others in the media world today, this always makes for a great little read. Brillaint read you cant beat a classic brought mainly to home school my teen but I ve been sucked in aswell lol My daughter was told about this at school and whilst it wasn t required reading for her GCSE asked me to get it anyway as she was told it was very good.It s a quick read and at just a 1, a bargain She s read it 3 times now and loves it Hopefully get passed down to my son next who definitely needs to read something a bit refined that doesn t have vampires in it. I sent for this story because it was mentioned in an excellent collection of locked room mysteries as one of the earliest of this type And so it was Poe s short stories are often weird but always brilliant, and this one is clearly a predecessor of that type of detective mystery which many of us delight in, with many uncanny twists that are his own hall mark. The Tell Tale Heart is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe first published inIt follows an unnamed narrator who insists on his sanity after murdering an old man with a vulture eye The murder is carefully calculated, and the murderer hides the body by cutting it into pieces and hiding it under the floorboards Ultimately the narrators guilt manifests itself in the hallucination that the mans heart is still beating under the floorboardsIt is unclear what relationship, if any, the old man and his murderer share It has been suggested that the old man is a father figure or, perhaps, that his vulture eye represents some sort of veiled secret The ambiguity and lack of details about the two main characters stand in stark contrast to the specific plot details leading up to the murderThe story was first published in James Russell Lowells The Pioneer in JanuaryThe Tell Tale Heart is widely considered a classic of the Gothic fiction genre and one of Poes most famous short stories A great story sold at a reasonable price 1 If you haven t read it then I highly recommend you sort that out and treat yourself My daughter loves these mini books, perfect for the handbag Treat enough for a read between essays.Good for stocking filler at Christmas. It s brilliant Great little book This is my second time reading this story, and I like the idea for reading it from the perspective of the killer but it does feel as though we get enough of his madness until the end of the story, which is quite disappointing The Tell-Tale Heart (English Edition)
