before its begun Stay Calm and Collie On did not feel like a finished novel It seemed like a rough draft in need of polishing and some rewriting I thought the story had a decent pace, but I felt some key details are missing We are not given enough information on Sue Patrick Readers are given details on the business and how she came to be in contact with Lady Anthea I wanted to knowabout Sue I found outabout the gala than about Sue The story lacked focus It jumped around reminded me of a dog twirling in circles chasing its tail Plus, did we need so many references to surfing and Elvis Presley The mystery is not complicated and the killer can be deduced early in the book The suspect list is extremely small I just wantedsubstance and less fluff There are some cute scenes with dogs and humorous dialogue For readers who enjoy light, humorous cozy mysteries with emphasis on cozy , then pick up a copy of Stay Calm and Collie On I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book The he could get away As customers dwindle at the dog spa, Sue and Lady Althea start investigating to find out who killed their driver and why The fate of their business venture is at stake Although not really very realistic, I thought the idea of the upscale doggie day care with a British flare was cute Cozies don t have to be realistic, so I just shut off that portion of my brain and enjoyed the story Sue is an intelligent and capable main character Lady Althea jumped right in to help and proved to be quite an asset The duo works well together I can t wait to see how their business partnership and friendship progresses The mystery moved along at a nice pace with plenty of suspects and sleuthing The background theme is cute and enjoyable, and doesn t overpower the mystery portion of the plot All in all, a very enjoyable, relaxing read It was a nice book to read on a cool, crisp autumn night with my dog on my lap of course The cover is cute as with most cozies This is a shorter cozy so I was able to read it easily in one day Nice start to a new series I will definitely be readingForinformation on the author and her books, check out her website I voluntarily read an advanced Fletcher from Murder She Wrote is quite down to earth and hands on regarding any aspects of the pet business she s not already familiar with The moment she arrives, however she s swept away with Sue as one of the employees appears to have absconded with 3 dogs, a company van, and gotten himself murdered Lady Anthea fits right in, and helps Sue search for clues as to what Henry was involved in that endangered some of their precious pet customers The mystery is very good I found this story hard to put down because Sue and Anthea are such entertaining lead characters The supporting cast fits the mystery well, also I chuckled out loud throughout the pages as the two ladies go about their business of sleuthing and pet pampering Amidst the clues and crime suspects, Lady Anthea s background story is slowly revealed, and she and Sue become fast friends Abby, Sue s standard schnauzer, is a smart cutie pie along with all the other pets in the story I eagerly look forward to reading book two.I voluntarily reviewed a digital ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley What a fun idea for a cozy mystery A pet daycare and spa with a royal theme, co owned by an American and a British Lady I really loved the unlikely seeming business partnership between Sue Patrick and Lady Anthea Fitzwalter from England This wasn t an easy mystery to figure out, so I just sat back, read and enjoyed the ride I knew I d never figure out who did it There were some great twists and plot turns, as well as some memorable characters and laugh out loud moments I enjoyed the sense What a fun idea for a cozy some memorable characters and laugh out loud moments I enjoyed the sense of humor throughout so much Hoping to drive inbusiness to the Buckingham Pet Palace, Sue Patrick was getting a visit from her business partner from England, Lady Anthea Fitzwalter just as her delivery driver went missing with three of her clients dogs he was supposed to deliver He showed up dead in her company van, and there was no shortage of suspects I liked it that the main character wasn t under suspicion, as is usually the case in a first of series cozy, a refreshing change The police chief was pretty nice too and seemed very tolerant of Sue and her little band of amateurs investigating Sue and Anthea made quite the team, along with Shelby and Dana, who were Pet Palace employees The showdown with the killer was great, and Anthea s quick thinking saved the day The gala with Lady Anthea as the special guest went great and showed that even royalty enjoys digging their feet into a beach sometimes I hope she stays around, as was hinted you ll find out if you read the last part of the last chapter , since I think she and the others all work well together Anthea was definitely a team player and didn t use her title as an excuse to get out of even the grunt work at the Pet Palace I m anxious to readin the series, see if Anthea stays for good and also see how if anything ever works out between the police chief and Sue, who seemed to be getting along pretty well.Just a fun note What I thought was really cool, is that Lewes, Delaware is a real place There are so many times when I read a book and the author will say it s based on a real place I looked up Lewes just for fun and there s even a Gilligan s pub there I may have found a new bucket list place to visit
